Straight Talk, a lower cost cell phone alternative

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Straight Talk for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
For several years, Mr. O and I had regular cell phone packages.  When we relocated to Alaska, we discovered our provider did not really have service here and our usage was considered roaming the entire time.  Not only that, every call to each other's phone double dipped into our minutes leaving us with overages we did not expect.  At over $80 per month for the 2 phones with only 450 minutes of calls each month, it was a BIG expense.  Thankfully, we were able to get out of that contract and I switched to a pay as you go phone.

Most of the time, the pay as I go phone (charged per day plus per minute off their network) has worked okay.  But, it has been for mostly emergency use and not to call a friend
So, I have started looking at alternatives that do not lock me into a 2 year contract.
Imagine my surprise to discover there is a no contract provider I can pick up through our local Wal-Mart.  Straight Talk operates similar to my current provider.  You purchase a phone and then purchase your option. $30 a month would give me more than my previous $40+ monthly charge used to provide.  Not only would I get 1000 minutes to talk at that price, I'd get texting and a modest amount of internet usage.  The $45 per month plan (about what I paid before) would make it all unlimited within the US.  And, the greater Anchorage area has coverage.
Straight Talk has everything you need in a cell phone plan.  This frugal mom just might be caught hook, line and sinker

  1. So glad you found a better option! My cell phone bill seems to get more expensive each month, maybe it is time to move on...

  2. Thanks for stopping by my blog! You know, my son has Strait Talk and loves it. For a single person it's a great alternative because I don't think you can get unlimited everything for one phone at that price anywhere else.
